Exhibit B, exhibition 1999

Why the US and the UK?

Because of Budweiser’s American heritage and UK appeal, B highlights how American and British urban youth cultures have influenced each other over recent years

Exhibit B Was a year-long programme of design by 6 of the UK's leading young designers. They were commissioned to interpret US urban influences in the UK within their respective fields.  Exhibit B brought together 6 designers covering a wide spectrum of disciplines. Inflate, Bornfree, Ella Doran, Michael Marriott, The Light Surgeons and Urban Salon. Read more

This work addressed US influences through their personal styles, covering: Architecture, Interior, Product, Furniture, Fashion, and Lighting.

Over 700 images were used to make coasters, which were zip-tied onto pegboards to tell the story of Michael Marriott and Ella Doran’s trip to the West Coast of America, capturing and purchasing Americana.

The photographs covered Gas Guzzlers, Randy’s Diner, Safeways (a Supermarket sweep through), hardware stores, yard sales, and our prized purchase, The Chrysler Newport that was shipped back for the exhibition (with a mock crock skin rooftop)

Alexandra Lunn

I used to roam around my dad’s wood workshop in West Yorkshire, terrorising his colleagues and making wooden sculptures. I’d accompany him to the demolition sites of the old mills of Manchester and Leeds that were being pulled down; everything within the mills was meant to be burnt, however, he’d salvage wood, bobbins, and cast iron objects and use the materials to make floors and furniture out of the reclaimed timber and other items. The idea that you could make something out of nothing interested me.

I work with developers, designers, and other creatives to create stand-out visual identities, websites, and marketing.
